![]() In Figure 4.36 the bullet ricocheted off a steel rail, passed through a screen door, and then struck the deceased. It is not uncommon to have the weave pattern of the clothing overlying the entrance imprinted on the side or base of the bullet, as the bullet may enter sideways or even backwards. In the case of lead bullets, the ricochet bullet when recovered from the body typically has a flattened, mirror-like surface on one side (Figure 4.36). These wounds tend to be penetrating rather than perforating because when the ricocheting bullet impacts the skin it is deformed, unstable, and has lost a significant amount of its energy by ricocheting off a hard surface15 Almost immediately after penetration, the bullet begins to tumble in the body, losing its remaining velocity and kinetic energy in a short distance. Their entrance wounds tend to be larger and more irregular the edges ragged, with the surrounding zone of abraded skin large and irregular. ![]() Ricocheting bullets commonly tumble in their path through the air, having an unpredictable trajectory. ![]() At an impact angle of 10 degrees, retained energy was approximately 75% declining to approximately 20% at 50 degrees. In the case of the concrete surface, the retained energy of both calibers followed a linear relationship with the angle of impact. Thus, at an impact angle of 50 degrees, the bullets retained only 20% of impact energy. At angles greater than 30 degrees the retained energy declined in a linear relation with the angle of impact. In the case of the steel plate, for both calibers, for angles of incidence of up to 30 degrees, the bullets tended to stay in one piece and retained approximately 75% of their impact energy. Houlden also determined the remaining energy of the ricocheting bullets and fragments.15 The determining factors were the angle of impact and the nature of the surface impacted. Table 4.1 Approximate Critical Angles for Various Cartridges and Bullet Types: Water * The angle of incidence is the angle formed by the trajectory of the bullet prior to ricochet and the surface from which the ricochet occurs. 45 ACP bullet, with an incident angle of 50 degrees, fragmented with a fragment of copper jacketing coming off the slab at a ricochet angle of 12.37 degrees. These figures were also true for the concrete slab with but one exception. The ricochet angles off the steel plate (incident angles 10 to 60 degrees) were less than 5 degrees for the 9-mm bullets less than 4 degrees for the. At angles below 30 degrees, they tended to remain in one piece though they flattened out. 45 ACP bullets (230 gr.) at a 5-mm thick concrete slab and a 6-mm thick steel sheet, at angles fromġ0 to 60 degrees.15 For both calibers, at angles of incidence of 30 degrees or more, the bullets fragmented. Houlden fired full metal-jacketed 9-mm Luger (115 gr.) and. ![]() Not surprisingly, these ricochetingbulletslosetheir gyro-scop 14īullets ricocheting off solid surfaces usually ricochet-off at angles smaller than the impact angle.14 Such bullets are unstable and will tumble. Bullets ricochetingoff waterinvari-ably ricochet off at angles greater than theimpactangle, typically2 to3times the impact angle. Atanimpactangleof 15degrees, all the listed projectiles penetrated water. As one can see, the critical angles are small (3 to 8 degrees). Gives the approximate critical angle of impact in water for representative cartridges and bullet types.13 Thecriticalangleslistedarethose at which the particular bullet just began to ricochet. In the latter case, if fragmentation is extensive, the fragments may come off the surface in a fan-shaped spray parallelingtheplaneof the ricochetsurface. If theangleof incidenceis greaterthanthe critical angle, the bullet either penetrates the surface or breaks up. ![]() For both solid surfaces and water there is a critical angle of impact (incidence) below which a bullet striking the surface will ricochet rather than penetrate.* The critical angle is determined by the nature of the surface, the construction of the bullet and the velocity of the bullet.12 Thus, round nose bullets are more likely to ricochet than flat-nosed fullmetal-jacketedthanleadandlow velocity more than high velocity. ![]()

Then we just need to get an API key on Airtable, you can follow this guide on how to get there but just look for it on your account settings. With Next.js it's pretty easy to integrate with Airtable. We are working with the volunteering team to migrate every single data piece to Airtable (except the copy of the website, which will be kept on Forestry). Currently, the transparency report is being imported from the Airtable, the rest is managed on the CMS side. ![]() Show me the code!ĭisclaimer: not all of the Airtable data could be used on the Website. As the site is static, costs would be non-existent or pretty low, and we would not be rate-limited by Airtable at all. Then we would just deploy everything from Github to Netlify. We still plugged in Forestry, a git-based CMS, so the team could edit the website's copy easily. Next.js static site generation abilities were also a factor in choosing it, as we didn't want to manage (and pay for) dedicated hosting. So, we decided to build the website with Next.js, as most of the developers that volunteered to help had React experience. Unbeknownst to them, Airtable could solve most of these problems directly, because Airtable itself would generate HTTP APIs for each of the tables they had, and we could directly fetch the data from there. The team at the time was hoping that we could set up a CMS to power the website's data and copy, and they would copy over manually some of the data from Airtable to said CMS. What they needed was a simple marketing landing page, with some stats that represented the actual progress of the movement. The volunteers were using Airtable to manage inventories, deliveries, and also transparency reports regarding financial movements, which are required to be public by Portuguese laws. They connected donators of either money or materials, to the organizations in need, handling all of the logistics. Their operation was relatively simple, in theory at least. They needed a website to help spread awareness of the MinhoCovid19 movement, a group of people trying to supply organizations in need (nursery homes, hospitals, etc) with protective materials built by volunteers. Back in June, we received a request to help build a website for an academic non-profit organization (our friends at AAUM), in Braga, Portugal. ![]() ![]() ![]() The free version of Live (Lite) which is included with a number of apps and hardware products (e.g. These are the retail prices of the different versions of Ableton Live at City Music Singapore. That’s lower than the 6.7% it hit last October, but still far above the 3.4% it stood at a year ago.Īccording to an analysis by Samuel Tombs, chief UK economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics, the average household on a two-year fixed-rate mortgage that covers 75% of the property’s value can expect to pay up to £500 ($634) more a month if it were to refinance today. The average rate on a two-year fixed-rate mortgage stood at 5.9% on Wednesday, according to data from product comparison website Moneyfacts. The interest rate on the typical UK mortgage may have dropped since the drama of last fall, but it has been steadily rising since the start of May as inflation has proved stickier than the central bank expected. That is the highest level since the 2008 financial crisis and above the peak hit last fall when the UK government bond, or gilt, market was thrown into turmoil by the prospect of unfunded tax cuts and higher borrowing planned by then-Prime Minister Liz Truss.
